This policy explains what information The Notable Daily (“we,” “us”) collects when you visit thenotabledaily.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to write it plainly instead of burying it in legal language.
The short version: we use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, and that’s about it. We don’t run ads, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t collect email addresses for marketing.
What we collect
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, when you visit we automatically receive some technical information through Google Analytics. This includes the pages you view, how you arrived at the site, roughly how long you stay, and general details about your device and browser, such as browser type, operating system, and approximate location based on your IP address. This data is used in aggregate to understand traffic patterns. It isn’t used to personally identify you, and we don’t try to.
Information you give us. If you email us at mary@thenotabledaily.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We only use that to read and respond to what you sent.
We do not require you to create an account, we do not collect email addresses for a newsletter or marketing, and we do not display third-party advertising on the site.
How we use information
We use the analytics data to see which stories people read, spot technical problems, and make the site better. We use anything you email us only to respond to you.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies to measure how the site is used. Cookies are small files stored by your browser. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can block them entirely, though some sites may not work as expected if you do.
If you’d rather Google Analytics not measure your visits at all, Google offers a browser opt-out add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to process the usage data described above. Google’s handling of that data is governed by its own privacy policy, which you can read at https://policies.google.com/privacy. We’ve configured Analytics to measure site usage only, not to serve advertising.
How we share information
We don’t sell or rent your information to anyone. The only third party that processes visitor data is Google, through Analytics, as described above. We may disclose information if we’re legally required to, for example in response to a valid legal request, but that’s the only other circumstance.
Data retention
Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ settings and Google’s own retention policies. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your message and any follow-up.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, such as the right to ask what we hold, to request a copy, or to ask us to delete it. Since the only personal information we directly hold is whatever you’ve emailed us, you can exercise these by writing to mary@thenotabledaily.com and we’ll help. For the analytics data processed by Google, the opt-out add-on above and your browser’s cookie controls are the main tools.
Children’s privacy
The Notable Daily is a general news site intended for a general adult audience. It isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.
Links to other sites
Our stories link out to other websites, including the sources we cite. We aren’t responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, and we’d encourage you to read their own privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
