Sarah Feuerborn Harbaugh has given at least three on-the-record interviews since 2016, all to small Michigan publications rather than national outlets, and the most recent one was five years ago. Getty’s photo archive holds close to a hundred pictures of her, dating back to at least 2010, at Chargers games, championship celebrations and red carpet events.
She is the wife of Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh. Sarah was born on September 20, 1978, in Belton, Missouri, a Kansas City suburb. She’s 47 now, the youngest of eleven children. “I grew up with 10 siblings, six brothers and four sisters,” she told Ann Arbor Family in 2021, a detail several other sites covering the family have gotten backward since. Before she met Jim Harbaugh, she worked in real estate in Las Vegas. Her current work isn’t part of the public record either.

From Belton to a parking lot in Las Vegas
They met in 2006 in the parking lot of a P.F. Chang’s. Harbaugh, recently divorced from his first wife, Miah Burke, was in town for a coaching convention while he was head coach at the University of San Diego. He asked for her phone number and didn’t believe it was real. “I thought it was one of those fake numbers she was giving me,” he said on HBO’s Real Sports in 2015. He called nine times before she called back.
Her brother Marty told a Kansas City television station in 2013 that Harbaugh “chased her and chased her” before she agreed to date him. They married on January 5, 2008.
Four kids and a family that kept moving
Addison was born in 2008 and Katherine followed on December 17, 2010, while Harbaugh coached at Stanford and then the San Francisco 49ers. Jack came a couple of years after that, born around 2012.
During the 49ers years, Sarah started poking fun at her husband’s wardrobe in public. She appeared in a 2014 Dockers commercial built around his refusal to give up pleated khakis, opening the ad with a mock-serious line: “Dad pants can affect almost any man.” That same year, she called into a radio show to complain that she kept throwing his pants out and he kept replacing them with eight-dollar pairs from Walmart.
In 2015, Harbaugh took the head coaching job at his alma mater, the University of Michigan, and the family moved to Ann Arbor. “I try not to ever let out who I am,” Sarah told Ann Arbor Family the following year. “It will happen eventually.”
John, their fourth child, was born January 11, 2017, about a month early, and spent 19 days in the NICU before the family had him baptized in Vatican City. Jack and John are named for two other Harbaughs: their grandfather, longtime college coach Jack Harbaugh, and their uncle, John Harbaugh.
Later that year, cameras caught five-year-old Jack crying in the stands during a Michigan loss, and the clip went viral. Sarah went after the people mocking him on Twitter hard enough to get her own account suspended, and by all accounts has not kept a public one since.
In 2019, she launched a clothing line through Valiant and the M Den, the university’s official retailer. It started as a joke, wearing Jim’s old football pants to a Chicago Bears game, until strangers kept asking where she’d bought them.
The 2026 season, and one Harbaugh who has moved on
Jim Harbaugh left Michigan for the Chargers in January 2024. When the team announced the hire, its own social media account nodded to the parking lot story from 2006, posting “pf changs is so good.” Sarah Feuerborn Harbaugh appeared publicly several times that year: at the College Football Playoff National Championship in January, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation gala and a Netflix roast of Tom Brady in May, and the Miss USA pageant in August.
Harbaugh is entering his third season as Chargers head coach, coming off back-to-back playoff appearances and a 22-12 regular season record over his first two years. The team added Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator and Chris O’Leary as defensive coordinator this offseason, and training camp opens July 29 at the team’s facility in El Segundo.
Most of what’s written about the family hasn’t caught up to one change. John Harbaugh, the uncle their son John is named for, is no longer the Ravens head coach. He left Baltimore after 18 seasons to take the New York Giants job in 2025. His replacement in Baltimore, Jesse Minter, previously worked as Jim Harbaugh’s own defensive coordinator, first at Michigan and later with the Chargers, before getting the Ravens job this year.
Sarah hasn’t spoken publicly since that 2021 interview, and nothing so far suggests that will change before training camp opens on July 29.
